Dr Nikolaos P. Ventikos is a Lecturer in the Laboratory for Maritime Transport at the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He has a diploma from the Dep. of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) of NTUA and a PhD from NTUA in the scientific areas of marine safety and ship generated oil pollution.

Dr Ventikos’s expertise is in marine safety; administration of marine systems; oil marine pollution; maritime security; human factor; port operations; and optimisation and statistical modelling. At NTUA he has participated in several major research projects in the areas of maritime transport, port operations, safety and environmental protection, e.g. SAFECO, SAFECO II, DISC II, THEMES, EVIMAR, ATOMOS IV, MTCP. POP&C, EU-MOP, OSH, AEGEAN, Decision Support Tool for Marine Oil Spill Confrontation, ASIA-LINK, EFFORTS etc

Dr N.P. Ventikos is currently teaching one undergraduate course in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering titled Elements of Hazard Analysis, Safety Theory and of the Study of Human Factor and co-teaching two undergraduate courses of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering with Prof. H.N. Psaraftis titled Ports and Multimodal Transportation and Maritime Transport Economics III: Safety and Environment.

Dr N.P. Ventikos was an external partner of Greek maritime journal ELNAVI publishing a series of articles concerning the administration/management of marine environment and the problem of (oil) marine pollution and a lecturer in HELMEPA’s refreshment courses. He has also conducted several marine surveys and inspections for all trading and class certificates for various flags/registrations.

Dr Ventikos has published his work in journals such as Journal of Hazardous Materials, WMU Journal of Maritime Affairs, Maritime Policy and Management, Marine Technology etc. He has given over 25 lectures at various international conferences on topics such as maritime transport, marine safety, information transmission, ship generated oil pollution, optimization, statistics and human factor.

Dr N.P. Ventikos is a member of the Hellenic Technical Chamber, of the Hellenic Association of Naval Engineers, of the Hellenic Club of Maritime Economics etc.

Dr Ventikos was awarded an Honorary Prize for his final pre-graduated thesis from the Hellenic Technical Chamber and the G.P. Livanos Grand Prize on Environmental Issues sponsored by the Hellenic Nautical Chamber. His PhD dissertation was nominee for the 2002 G.P. Livanos Grand Award on Environmental Issues sponsored from the Union of Greek Shipowners.

Dr Ventikos is very fluent in Greek (mother language), English and French and he has basic knowledge of Arabic.
