Mr. Schinas holds a doctoral degree (Dr-Eng, NTUA, 2005) in MaritimeTransport Economics, a degree in Shipping Management (MSc. WMU, 1998) and inNA&ME (Dipl.-Eng., NTUA, 1994). He has been professionally involved in largecorporate projects, consulting and research activities.
Schinas has spent his military service at the Naval Base and the NavalDetachment at Scaramangas, where he acquired experiences in the constructionand repairs of surface vessels. Later he got professionally involved ascargo, ship and damage surveyor. After graduation from WMU, in 1998, Schinasgot involved in major corporate projects of a shipping company, of theAgricultural Bank Group of Companies (ATE) and of the Piraeus PortAuthorities (PPA). At the same time Mr. Schinas has also offered hisservices to the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) mainly inquality, CRM and financial issues. Schinas served also as CEO of a majorhospital in Athens and currently runs a consulting firm.
During all these years, from 1994 up to now, Mr. Schinas has been involvedin various research projects in the Maritime Transport Area at NTUA and theDepartment of Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus. Most of themwere focused on transport economics, logistics, telematics (e-brokerage,e-learning, e-commerce) and management.
Schinas has published his work in various scientific journals andconferences and has co-authored a book on business logistics and translatedin Greek Prof. Sussman's book on transportation systems along with StratosPapadimitriou. He is a member of many scientific and professional societiesin Greece and abroad, and his work has been acknowledged with a fellowshipfrom the European Commission, the NTUA and awards from the Technical Chamberof Greece and the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology.
