Konstantinos G. Gkonis is a doctoral researcher at the Laboratory for Maritime Transport since October 2005. He began his doctoral studies (academic year 2004-2005) at the International Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance of Cass Business School (City University London), on a scholarship awarded by a major Greek energy group; received a M.Sc. in International Business (2000) at the Manchester School of Management, U.M.I.S.T. (Manchester Business School), on a scholarship awarded by N.T.U.A.; received a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (1999) from N.T.U.A. with specialization in energy.

In his Ph.D. Thesis (in progress) titled “Analysis of Competition and Strategic Investments in the LNG market”, Game Theory is utilised to analyse the dynamics of this evolving energy shipping market from a business and national energy strategy point of view.

His research interests also include the use of game theory in strategic analyses in various fields, such as energy & shipping, geopolitics & diplomacy, defence & security. He has a background in engineering, economics and operations research, with application in energy shipping, and the natural gas & oil industries, and has professional experience as an energy consultant and in engineering posts. He is also involved in various research projects of the Laboratory.

He is member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the International Association for Energy Economics (I.A.E.E.), the International Association of Maritime Economists (I.A.M.E.) and the Manchester Business School Alumni. He speaks Greek (mother tongue), English, French and comprehends elements of German and Russian.

K. G. Gkonis has graduated from the Reserve Officers' School of the Greek Army's Technical Corps and is a Reserve 2nd Lieutenant of the Greek Army.
