Nikolaos P. Ventikos is a Researcher in the Area of Maritime Transport and Marine Systems at the Dep. of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He has a diploma from the Dep. of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) of NTUA (1994) and a Ph.D. (2002) from NTUA in the scientific area of Maritime (Transportation) Safety and Marine Systems (Marine Oil Pollution).
Ventikos's expertise is in maritime safety, administration of marine systems and oil marine pollution. At NTUA he has participated in several major research projects in the area of maritime transport and safety (EU projects SAFECO, SAFECO II, DISC II, THEMES, EVIMAR and ATOMOS IV) and in a research project in the area of administration of marine systems (Greek project for Developing a Decision Support Tool for Marine Oil Spill Confrontation).
Also at NTUA N.P. Ventikos is auxiliary teaching two courses of Prof. H.N. Psaraftis in the scientific and academic area of maritime transport and marine systems. In projects DISC II and ATOMOS IV, NTUA is involved in the cost- benefit evaluation of advanced maritime transport systems and in the validation of pilot applications. In projects SAFECO and SAFECO II, NTUA is involved in matters of marine safety, accident analysis and assessment of the human element.
N.P. Ventikos was an external partner of ELNAVI journal (2000-2001) publishing 10 articles concerning the administration of marine environment and the problem of (oil) marine pollution and a lecturer in HELMEPA's refreshment courses (2000). He has also conducted several marine surveys and inspections for all trading and class certificates for various flags (1996-2001).
Ventikos is publishing his work in journals such as Decision Tactics Journal and International Journal of Maritime Economics. He has given over 17 lectures at various international conferences on topics such as marine oil pollution, maritime transport, marine safety, information transmission, marine systems and human factor.
N.P. Ventikos is a member of the Hellenic Technical Chamber, of the Hellenic Association of Naval Engineers and of a new scientific committee of the Hellenic Technical Chamber.
Ventikos was awarded an honorary prize for his final pre-graduated thesis from the Hellenic Technical Chamber (1994) and the G.P. Livanos environmental (monetary and honorary) prize sponsored by the Hellenic Nautical Chamber (2000). His Ph.D. dissertation is currently nominee (2002) for the G.P. Livanos environmental award sponsored from the Union of Greek Shipowners.
N.P. Ventikos is very fluent in Greek (mother language), English and French.
